Welcome to the LION Fire Academy Training Center. Choose from one of the training chapters below to watch and learn. After each chapter, you will be prompted to take an online test. After you submit your answers, you will be informed if you passed the test. If you didn't pass, you may take it again. For successful completion of all 12 tests, you will receive a CEU certificate worth three hours of training. For fire departments that require all members to take the training, please use the Tell Us link on the homepage.  We can manage your roster for you or send certificates to your training officer.

Chapter 1:
Personal Responsibility of the Individual Fire Fighter

Covers the individual responsibilities each fire fighter has for his or her PPE, including:

  • Reading, understanding and following the User Instruction, Safety and Training Guides.
  • Reading and understanding all warning labels affixed to your PPE,
  • Understanding the purpose and limitations of your PPE,
  • Inspecting and maintaining your PPE,
  • And, the importance of proper diet and physical fitness.

Purpose and Limitations

A look at the limited protection your PPE provides, the hazards you face during firefighting operations and, inappropriate use of your PPE.

Routine Inspection

Covers the importance of inspecting all elements of your PPE and demonstrates how to perform a routine inspection.

Donning and Doffing

The essentials of how to:

  • Don your gear before boarding the truck,
  • Don your gear at the fire scene,
  • The importance of closures and interface areas,
  • How to properly remove your gear,
